Synopsis

This Case Flyer enables a discussion on the purpose and process of employment interviews. It helps understand the importance of job interview and by debating on the role of knowledge, attitude and skills, it helps in determining the purpose of an interview. It explains the process of job interview with the help of concepts such as types of interviews, contents of a job interview, ideal interviewers, basis of effective job interview and ways of administering an interview. However, it questions the necessity of an interview for various job types. Lastly, it argues that although certain questions such as those related to age, religion, marital status, etc., are forbidden to be asked in an interview, they play an important role in assessing the job-fitment of a candidate. This Case Flyer can be suitably used to teach the concept of ‘interviewing candidates’ in Human Resource Management course.

Abstract

The Case Flyer helps understand the purpose of a job interview and also the process of the same with certain pertinent questions. It triggers a debate whether an individual is hired only for his/her skills or knowledge or for other soft attributes such as attitude. Broadly, it focuses on the necessity of a job interview and the ways to conduct an effective job interview.
